School Council

The School Council was set up in January 2006 and is made up of 10 children. The council meets monthly and each Council member represents a different class. Each member has to discuss with other children from their class what they would like to change. Members remind the teachers to hold Class Council meetings.

The Council members have their own board in the hall and their photographs are displayed so that everyone knows who they are, along with general information about meetings.

In its first year Mount Carmel School Council was able to help towards setting up Class Council meetings, and to raise funds for the playground markings to be redesigned. This meant that the Chair and Vice Chair had to attend a PFA meeting and ask for funds. Following this the School Council asked all the children to vote for what they would like on the playground, then they spoke to suppliers and got a price for the job. The playground looks great now and the children really like it.

The School Council wants to make people happy and to keep the school clean. The children in school ask about what they can have to make their school even better than it is. The School Council can talk about anything and it is important for all the children in the school to have their say.
