I would like to start by wishing you all a very warm welcome back to the new school year. It was wonderful to see all of the children arriving on Monday morning looking incredibly smart and eager to experience life in their new classrooms. We are incredibly proud of our new Early Years children for settling in to school life so quickly – thank you to parents and family members for your support in ensuring such a smooth transition process.
In assembly on Monday we celebrated the canonisation of Mother Teresa, which took place on Sunday, and thought about ways in which we could make other people’s lives happier just like Saint Teresa did. We also talked about the many possibilities that a new school year brings and how we can make the most of the wide range of opportunities available to us.
The curriculum is already in full swing throughout the school with evidence of our new cursive handwriting initiative, year 3 enjoying their archaeology day in preparation for their Egyptian topic and year 2 off for their trip to Hatton to name just a few of the exciting things taking place this week.
We were absolutely thrilled to receive the news this week that we have been awarded the silver Primary Science Quality Mark which recognises the school’s commitment to excellence in science teaching and learning. Jane Turner, PSQM National Director, stated in the letter: “Gaining a Primary Science Quality Award is a significant achievement for a school. The profile and quality of science teaching and learning in each awarded school is very high. Children are engaging with great science both in and outside the classroom, developing positive attitudes towards science as well as secure science understanding and skills. Science subject leaders, their colleagues, head teachers, children, parents and governors should be very proud.” Congratulations to Mrs Burrow (Science subject leader), Mrs Nicholas and all of the staff for working so hard to ensure that science is fun, engaging and meaningful for all of the children. We look forward to more fantastic developments this year!
Enjoy your weekends!
