There is, understandably, uncertainty about whether to send your child into school if they are experiencing cold symptoms in the current circumstances. If your child has a runny nose or sore throat, they can attend school if they are well enough.

However, in line with current government guidance, if your child has any of the following symptoms:

  • a high temperature – this means you feel hot to touch on your chest or back
  • a new, continuous cough – this means coughing a lot for more than an hour, or 3 or more coughing outbursts in a day
  • a loss or change to your sense of smell or taste – this means you’ve noticed you cannot smell or taste anything, or things smell or taste different to normal

They MUST stay at home and you should arrange for a COVID-19 test by calling NHS 119 or visiting:

https://www.nhs.uk/conditions/coronavirus-covid-19/testing-and-tracing/get-a-test-to-check-if-you-have-coronavirus/

The whole household MUST also self-isolate until you receive the results of this test.

If the test result is negative and there is no high temperature for 48 hours, then your child can return to school.

Thank you for your ongoing support in enabling us to keep our whole school community safe.
