We have had an enjoyable week here at school, despite the weather, as our Reception and Year 1 children, staff and parents continue to get used to our new ‘bubbles’ and new routines. We will provide additional information for Reception and Year 1 parents, regarding provision for the remainder of the term, at the start of next week.
Our staff have also enjoyed the opportunity to catch up with families vie telephone as they continue to carry out their wellbeing checks.
We were delighted to hear the news that, based on government guidance, Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church will now be open for individual private prayers. Church will be open on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays from 10.30am-12.30am for private prayer ONLY. As yet, we do not have a date when public services or Mass is able to be celebrated. We look forward to the day when this is possible once again.
We were also pleased to receive the following information from Andy Quinn from Father Hudson’s Care this week:
‘Normally, during the summer term, we would be inviting schools from across the Archdiocese to attend a Good Shepherd Mass to celebrate fundraising for the vulnerable communities that we aim to help. I am delighted to inform you that Archbishop Bernard has agreed to celebrate the Good Shepherd Mass which will be live streamed and available online on Monday 29th June at 10am. During the bidding prayers we will remember how this has impacted on children’s preparation for Holy Communion, the Sacrament of Reconciliation, Confirmation and major transitions’
I’m sure that you would agree that, though we cannot physically come together as a whole school community, it would be wonderful to have the opportunity to be able to celebrate this special Mass online together. We will share details of how to access this when we get them next week.
Due to the current situation that we find ourselves in during these unprecedented times, we have reflected upon our uniform policy and have made some temporary changes to make it easier for parents/carers to purchase clothing for the autumn term. This will be in place for the 2020 – 2021 academic year only. Please follow the link to read our interim policy which can be found on the policies section of the ‘Our School’ tab on the school website:
We are continuing to make plans in school for how we can celebrate the successes of our year 4 children during their time at Our Lady of Mount Carmel and provide the opportunity to say farewell as they prepare for transition to middle school. We will keep you updated!
As from Monday, there will be a lidded box outside the front office during school hours and one outside the bottom gate during drop off and pick up times. Can we ask that you bring any school books, science bags, prayer bags etc back to school and place them in the boxes before the end of term.
On behalf of all the staff we want you to know we miss you all very much and will continue to keep you in our prayers until we are able to be together again.
Enjoy your weekends
