Catholic Life

Our Mission, Vision and Values:

Our Mission Statement:

“Love God and Love One Another”

OUR VISION

We are a Catholic School, which looks to Christ for the basis of its existence.

We strive to help pupils develop a personal faith relationship with God, while being engaged in a dynamic and rich learning environment.

We aim to be a happy, welcoming, worshipping and caring community.

We seek excellence in fulfilling the educational, social and spiritual needs of all our children.

We aim to ensure that every child enjoys learning, experiences success and develops their full potential.

We seek to encourage a dynamic interaction between home, parish and school.

We wish to foster, through our Christian beliefs, an understanding of differing faiths, views, peoples, cultures and customs.

  • At Our Lady of Mount Carmel Catholic First School Academy the governors and staff are strongly committed to building and strengthening the Catholic ethos of the school in all that we do.
  • We strive to build upon the foundations of our Catholic faith, started from the home, and seek to provide an environment where beliefs and values of the Catholic faith are taught, explained, developed and nurtured.
  • We wish to foster, through our Christian beliefs, an understanding of differing faiths, views, peoples, cultures and customs.
  • We build a school where each child believes in their own potential, in an environment where they can succeed and achieve, echoed through our school mission statement.

Magnificat Vision

  • We magnify the God given talents of all our pupils
  • We rejoice in working together to improve the life chances of our pupils
  • We serve our communities through prayer and action
    • We grow the Catholic Leaders of tomorrow

Magnificat Aims

Respect: We uphold the dignity of humanity in all that we do. It is of paramount importance across our family of schools that every person in our communities is recognised, acknowledged, and respected for their God given individuality and are embraced with the love of Christ.

Integrity: We aim to be completely transparent in all that we do. We are guided by ethical principles in all our work ranging from resources management to the development of our people.

Service: Inspired by Our Lady’s service to God, we bear witness to the Gospel and provide an enriching encounter with Christ for all our communities. Our schools aim to serve our parishes and all in our communities regardless of background or faith. We also commit to nurturing a sense of service and vocation amongst our staff, children, and young people.

Excellence: We aspire to be the highest performing Catholic Multi-Academy in the country as we recognise that the quality of education provided by our schools will determine the life chances of our young people.

Masses

At Our Lady of Mount Carmel, we celebrate Mass in school fortnightly on a Monday morning at 9.00am where the whole school community comes together with our school chaplain Fr Jason. Our Masses are joyful celebrations in which we give thanks to God through pupil led liturgy, prayer and song. Each Mass is planned and led by a year group. We also visit Our Lady of Mount Carmel Parish Church for a special Feast Day Mass each year.

Sacramental Preparation:

In Year 3 Catholic children are prepared for the sacrament of First Reconciliation and First Holy Communion. This programme runs from November to June in collaboration with pupils, parents, school and parish.  During this period family sessions are held in school on a monthly basis, and four special celebration Masses are arranged as a preparation for First Holy Communion Mass in June.

Chaplaincy Team

We have an active KS2 Chaplaincy Team who work to support and strengthen the Catholic Life of the school in a wide variety of ways. They plan and lead regular prayer services focusing on the Liturgical Calendar and half-termly Gospel Virtues. They are also involved in promoting our many fundraising activities and participate  regularly in MAC events such as the Remembrance Day Service at St Augustine’s.

Prayer Garden

We are very fortunate to have a prayer garden on-site which is available for formal opportunities for prayer and reflection, as part of the RE curriculum, as well as being available informally for the whole school community.

School Mission Hymn:

We are delighted to have written our own school Mission hymn in collaboration with Dan Callow and our KS2 Chaplaincy Team. Our beautiful hymn is sung at our whole school Gospel assemblies and at Masses.
